Contemporary craftsmanship and natural simplicity come together in this riverside Vermont retreat, open year-round for quiet inspiration and adventure

The Experience

Welcome to The Modern Tiny House, where clean lines and natural textures invite you into a space designed to inspire calm and clarity. Nestled along the Lamoille River within Uncommon Accommodations’ 14-acre retreat, this home was built by Vermont’s own Up End This, known for blending sustainable craftsmanship with elegant simplicity. Each season brings its own magic: in summer, open the windows to the soft sound of the river and let the forest breeze fill the space; in autumn, sip cider on the deck while the hillsides glow with color; in winter, relax in the riverside hot tub as snow falls quietly through the pines. Whether you’re here to write, rest, or reconnect, this retreat offers the perfect mix of solitude and comfort. Just minutes from Johnson village — and within easy reach of Stowe, Smugglers’ Notch, and Jay Peak — it’s both a peaceful sanctuary and a gateway to adventure.

The Uncommon Accommodation

Designed and built by Up End This, Vermont’s renowned tiny-home craftsman, this modern retreat celebrates intentional living through thoughtful design and fine local materials. The interior feels open and airy, with large windows framing mountain and river views, while every detail — from the locally milled woodwork to the warm lighting and soft linens — enhances the sense of natural harmony. The compact kitchen and dining nook provide all the essentials for simple, cozy meals, and the full bathroom with unlimited hot water delivers a rare touch of everyday luxury. High-speed Starlink WiFi, sustainable construction, and year-round comfort make this home as functional as it is beautiful. Step onto your private wrap-around deck to breathe in the mountain air, listen to the river, and feel time slow down. As part of Uncommon Accommodations, you’ll also enjoy shared access to riverside amenities including a hot tub, firepit, EV charger, and nature trails — all designed to connect you more deeply with Vermont’s landscape and creative spirit.

What People Are Saying
★★★★★

“Staying at Tyler’s tiny house was an absolute dream! It was the perfect blend of cozy and modern with everything we needed for a weekend getaway. Loved the views and exploring the beautiful property. We wouldn’t have even known that there were other people staying near us if weren’t for the cars because of how peaceful and quiet the place was. Loved going to the hot tub whenever we got back, and it we couldn’t even tell that there was construction going on. Tyler also was very informative, leaving us detailed messages on how to get to the property and what to expect, etc. Thank you!!”

“This was our 4th visit to Uncommon Accommodations and once again left as happy as we were when we arrived. Tyler is always available if needed. The property is situated in a great area along the water and plenty of food options both in and outside of Johnson. The accommodations are always clean and comfortable. We will definitely be back for another visit.”

“The tiny home had the best view and the land surrounding the property is beautiful I even found a barred owl feather on my first day which is my favorite bird. Jenna’s coffeehouse had the best breakfast sandwiches and is only 5 minutes away. Great deal and great location, we will be visiting again with friends and family.”

“My husband and so enjoyed staying in this tiny house! The place was spotless and had everything we needed, the view of the river and mountains was beautiful, and we so appreciated having access to the hot tub even in the middle of winter :) and the heat in the tiny house worked well too, which was essential when we were there! Easy (and scenic) drive into Stowe, and we enjoyed getting coffee/breakfast in Johnson as well. Would love to return!”

“Nothing less than the most perfect magical forest getaway in mountains of Vermont. Tiny house was expertly constructed and the hot tub was amazing. We swam in the crystal clear river and went hiking. The kitchen area was super tidy and had enough kitchen essentials to make a homemade meal. Great stay!”
